Helena Wakefield is a fully trained lymphoedema therapist qualified in Complex Physical Therapy (Complex Decongestive Therapy) and compression garment fitting. With an Advanced MLD & CPT Certificate from the Foldi Clinic of Lymphology, Germany; a Diploma in Lymphatic Drainage and a M.A. in Cultural Psychology, Helena is a highly skilled practitioner with a broad range of practical experience in the rehabilitation of patients with breast cancer, primary and secondary lymphoedema.
Using early intervention work with 'preventive strategies', Helena helps patients who have a limb at risk of lymphoedema after cancer surgery. In addition, she educates the patient in a home maintenance program that includes self manual lymphatic drainage, lymphatic decongestive exercises and skin care. Helena has presented on Manual Lymphatic Drainage at the 2007 National Massage Conference and lectured on preventive measures for a limb at risk of lymphoedema at cancer support groups.
